Self-care for Carers - Buddha’s Teachings and Mental Wellbeing

Who holds the healer? The third session of our Consultative Seminar Series, titled ‘Self-care for Carers,’ explores with curiosity how mindfulness and contemplative practices can cultivate self-awareness, support inner renewal, and help mental health professionals sustain their well-being while engaging more meaningfully with society. The panel comprises:

Dr. Suvarna Joshi: Psychotherapist and supervisor. Drawing on systemic, relational, narrative, experiential, and presence-oriented approaches, she explores questions of suffering, meaning and transformation, with a particular interest in the intersection of psychotherapy and contemplative wisdom.

Dr. Pallavi Banerjee: Psychotherapist, supervisor and mentor to emerging therapists. She is a Buddhist meditation practitioner and a member of Atish Dipankar Dhyan Kendra. She aspires to weave learnings from different traditions for healing of self and others.

Dr. Chetna Duggal: Associate Professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. A therapist and supervisor with more than 20 years of experience, she leads Rahbar, a mental health training initiative, and Simha, promoting wellbeing among university students.

Dr. Anuttama Banerjee (Moderator): Psychologist, poet and contemplative practitioner who makes psychology accessible through her podcast. Her work focuses on intimacy and relationship diversity, queer-affirmative care, interpersonal harmony, and the integration of psychoanalytic and Buddhist perspectives on mental well-being.

Life is Too Short, Meditate Well

Meditation is a science and anybody can meditate. With guidance and regular practice, one can also learn to meditate well. Buddha’s methods show a step-by-step process of learning, practising and enjoying the benefits of a regular practice – better health, mental peace, resilience to go through life, experience healthy emotions, as well as wisdom and compassion to help others.

In this Modular Course on Meditation, Dr Anindya Chatterjee will teach both theory and guide meditations. The course is for all — beginners to experienced practitioners. Dr Chatterjee, a psychiatrist, has trained with some of the most accomplished Buddhist meditation masters of our time. He teaches Buddhist psychology, philosophy and meditation at Atish Dipankar Dhyan Kendra.

The sessions will be held on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month.

This Modular Course on Meditation is for registered participants only; it is free for members of Atish Dipankar Dhyan Kendra. Non-members can register for a fee.
