Communities of Care - Buddha’s Teachings and Mental Wellbeing

Communities of Care, the second session in our Consultative Seminar Series, is scheduled for June 6. This series of three seminars — titled ‘Buddha’s Teachings and Mental Wellbeing: A Dialogue’ — is being organised by Atish Dipankar Dhyan Kendra’s Mental Health team.

The seminar on Communities of Care will explore how mindfulness and meditation can support community wellbeing in ethical and context-sensitive ways, with insights from our expert panellists.

Tashi Choedup [They/She]: Transfeminine Buddhist monastic in the Tibetan tradition who integrates Buddhist contemplative practice with social justice work. Tashi currently co-leads the Queer-Trans Wellness & Support Centre which they co-founded.

Ani Sophia Groom: British counsellor and Kagyu Buddhist nun who has taught mindfulness and led mental health initiatives at The British School. Ani Sophia now studies Buddhist Experience with the Tergar Institute under Mingyur Rinpoche.

Nitin Das: Forest filmmaker, who creates unusual stories of uncommon people and places. Nitin also runs healingforest.org, a project that reconnects communities with nature through mindfulness and creativity.

Saoni Banerjee (Moderator): Art Psychotherapist, academic, Buddhist meditation practitioner and student at Atish Dipankar Dhyan Kendra. Saoni integrates relational, social justice and Buddhist perspectives for culturally sensitive approaches.
