Celebrating Geshe La’s Birthday

We celebrated the joyous occasion of our spiritual guide Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s birth anniversary (June 4, 1931) with a special programme of prayers, guided meditation and music on June 7 at our meditation centre in Kolkata.
The group prayed with ‘Request to the Holy Spiritual Guide Venerable Kelsang Gyatso from his Faithful Disciples’. Dibyajyoti Bhadra and Jayanti Basu, both trustees of Atish Dipankar Dhyan Kendra, recited the prayer in Bengali. This was followed by a guided meditation on ‘Cherishing Others’, led by our teacher Anindya Chatterjee.
The highlight of the evening was a flute recital by Roshan Putwar, a flutist from Nepal and currently a research scholar at Calcutta University, on the traditional Nepali devotional music form of Dapha. He was accompanied on the tabla by Arka Banerjee.
Pallavi Banerjee, a trustee of Atish Dipankar Dhyan Kendra, held a short interview with Roshan on his research work on Dapha music.
